Weekend Away

Our favourite weekend of the year is coming up.

Each year, we go away as a big church family.

 

It's a great opportunity to spend lots of quality time together in God's word, deepening friendships (and making new ones!), and being refreshed. There's plenty of space to rest, relax, and enjoy the gorgeous South Coast of New South Wales.

This year will be no different.

FAQs

  • John McClean teaches theology at Christ College. He is married to Elizabeth and they have two adult children and three grandchildren. They live in Winmalee in the Blue Mountains and are part of the leadership team at Winmalee Presbyterian Church. John enjoys reading history and fiction and trying to control the growth in their bush garden.

  • This year's theme is 'Be Thou my vision: How knowing God shapes us'. We are often preoccupied with self-focussed fears and petty ambitions. Seeing God in his goodness and greatness puts those into perspective. As God reveals himself to us in Jesus his perfections change us. We will look at biblical descriptions of God: his goodness, his wrath, his holiness, and his faithfulness, and see that these truths shape us: helping us to love and trust God, and be like him in Christ.

  • Yes! The kids' program (Pre-K to Year 9) will run parallel to each session and be led by trained volunteers, Jason and Rebekah Yu (Randwick Presbyterian Church). Jason is studying at Christ College and is working towards ordination in the Presbyterian Church. He enjoys studying the biblical language of Greek, while Rebekah enjoys coffee and building spaces for people. Together, they love to catch up with friends, enjoy good food, and capture precious memories on camera.

  • For those attending the full weekend, please arrive anytime between 6-10pm on Friday. Please have dinner beforehand or BYO dinner.

    For those attending on Saturday or Sunday, please ensure you arrive before 9am. This will give you plenty of time to settle in before the first session.

  • There are three accommodation options for you to choose from.

    Option 1 (Max. 7 persons)
    2 bedroom air-conditioned cabin with ensuite
    1 king bed, 2 single beds, and 2 queen sofa beds in lounge room.

    Option 2 (Max. 6 persons)

    1 bedroom air-conditioned cabin with ensuite

    1 king bed OR 2 king single beds, 1 bunk bed, and queen sofa in lounge room

    Option 3 (Max. 4 persons)

    Motel style air-conditioned cabin with ensuite

    1 king bed OR 2 king single beds and 1 bunk bed

  • For those who have registered for the whole weekend, all meals (breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner) are included in the registration cost. Day visitors will be provided with morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.

  • There will be two sessions on Saturday and two sessions on Sunday. There will also be organised group activities and plenty of free time to enjoy great fellowship with one another.

  • Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort is located one hour drive from Sydney on the South Coast of NSW. There is an indoor pool, kids play and recreational areas, and it is steps away from Wollongong Beach. It is about 5km from the middle of Wollongong. You can find out more here.

  • Wollongong in October is mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures around 23°C, while night temperatures can drop to around 9°C. You might like to bring - 

    ​

    • Bed sheets, sleeping bag, pillows, or blankets.

    • Towel

    • Toiletries

    • A light jacket and appropriate clothes for outdoor activities

    • Comfortable footwear

    • Swimwear

    • Bible, notebook and pen

    • Device chargers

    • Personal medication

    • Water bottle

    • Snacks to share (optional). Please refrain from bringing any foods that contains nuts or alcohol.

    • Board games (optional)
